Acadia National Park Peaks Traverse
Distance: 65 miles
Elevation: 18,000 feet
Elevation: 18,000 feet
The Acadia National Park Peaks Traverse is inspired by the Bob Graham Round in the Lake District of England, and travels west to east, covering the (coincidentally) 42 named peaks and geographic features designated on published maps, starting on the west side of the island, and finishing in downtown Bar Harbor. The goal shares the same as the Bob Graham Round, 24 hours. Starting on the west side of the island at the Seal Cove Road entrance, carriage roads (crushed gravel under the forest canopy), take you to the first trail up Western Mountain. From there the course traverses the west side of the island hitting one peak after the other. Bernard, Little Notch, Knights Nubble, Great Notch, Mansell, and Beech mountains before reaching Route 102. Entering St. Sauveur Trailhead down to Acadia Mountain, up Valley Peak, down to tag Flying Mountain. From there the route kayaks across Somes Sound (ocean) one mile to the other side of Mount Desert Island. This connects back to Acadia National Park up to Norumbega Mountain, the Bald Peak, Parkman Mountain, Gilmore Mountain, then Sargent Mountain the second highest peak on the island. After Sargent to Penobscot Mountain, back South Sargent Ridge Trail down to Eliot Mountain. Across on the Richard Trail into the Land & Garden Preserve to Barr Hill, then Redfield Hill. Reentering Acadia National Park to Day Mountain, The Triad, Pemetic Mountain, to South Bubble, North Bubble, Connors Nubble and on carriage roads to Eagle Lake Carriage Road parking lot. Tagging the off trail Brewer Mountain back up the Eagle Lake Road to the entrance to Acadia's backcountry. McFarland Mountain to Young's Mountain on the backcountry trails, down to the carriage roads and connecting Duck Brook Bridge and the Park Loop Road. Head south on the Park Loop Road to Great Hill, tagging the summit and back to the loop road. Continue up the loop road to the Cadillac Mountain Summit Road to tag the unmarked summit trail of Whitecap. Heading back on the Park Loop Road until it connects with the Cadillac North Ridge Trail to the summit, the highest point on the US coastline. Descending south down Cadillac to Dike's Peak, then Eagles Crag. Crossing Route 3 at the bottom to Blackwoods Campground head east to Gorham Mountain Trail. Ascend Gorham Mountain to Halfway Mountain (abandoned trail) then down to Sand Beach and across to tag the Great Head summit marker. Back up Beehive, to the off trail abandoned summit of Enoch Mountain. Heading up Champlain Mountain after Enoch, then down to Huguenot Mountain and down to Route 3 at The Tarn. Up Dorr Mountain to the summit, down the north ridge to Kit Kebo Mountain, the final summit. After Kebo, you are now only one mile from the town of Bar Harbor, and running into town the finish is at the 1881 town clock, directly outside Leary's Landing, the closest Irish Pub to Ireland in the US. 65 miles with 17,000 feet of climbing in under 24 hours.

Elevation: 3,524 feet
The Blackwoods Loop route starts within the Blackwoods Campground in Acadia National Park by the park ranger booth about 0.5 miles into the campground. The specific starting location is the Quarry Path Trailhead taking you down to the Park Loop Road which is run on briefly before connecting with the Otter Cove Trail. Crossing the rocks, go straight on Kurt Dederichs Climb to Schiff Path and then out and back on the Dorr Mountain North Ridge Trail to tag the summit. Isle Au Haut Redline
Distance: 25.5 miles
Elevation: 2,470 feet
Elevation: 2,470 feet
Half of 113 square mile Isle au Haut is privately owned, but the other half is a part of Acadia National Park and boasts eighteen miles of trails. The Isle au Haut Redline is a challenge to link all of these trails in a single push, making a complete loop back to your origin point, without the use of vehicles. The relevant trails are blue-blazed and are predominantly loamy singletrack, with a few rocky beach miles and a touch of scrambling. Completing the route will also require some inevitable time on dirt roads. The trails in question, as listed on the NPS website, are Bowditch (2.0 mi), Cliff (0.7 mi), Deep Cove (0.2 mi), Duck Harbor (3.8 miles), Duck Harbor Mountain (1.2 mi), Eben’s Head (0.8 mi), Goat (2.1 mi), Long Pond (3 mi), Median Ridge (1.8 mi), Nat Marchant (1.1 mi), and Western Head (1.3). There are public water sources at the Isle au Haut village National Park Service office (which makes a convenient starting point) and the Duck Harbor Campground. The redline will involve hiking sections or entire trails more than once. The route can be completed in around 25 miles, and is an incredible way to get a feel for a starkly beautiful island with varied landscapes.

Elevation: 1,584 feet
The Acadia National Park Loop Road is to go to scenic route around the east side of Mound Desert Island, connecting Acadia's mountains, lakes, and shoreline. It provides access to popular areas such as Sieur de Monts, Sand Beach, Otter Point, Jordan Pond, and Cadillac Mountain. Constructed between 1921 and 1958, it allows motor vehicles access to the park separate from local roads and non motorized carriage roads. The total mileage of the Park Loop Road is around 27 miles, and the FKT is the entire section of the road that loops (with loop FKT's, you can start at any point on the loop, as long as it is in line with the aesthetics of the route), and is approximately 18.65 miles with 1,594 feet of elevation.
